Often sold alongside Sharpening Stones to help bring a knife edge back to “true” (straight, not flattened), honing oil can also be used to avoid corrosion or damage to knives that are not used often. It is usually recommended to coat Chrome Vanadium knives in a light coating of honing oil when not in use to prevent oxidation and corrosion.
